Anton
Mudde, President of Baytech Plastics in Midland, Ontario
will be receiving the CPIA Leader of
the Year Award at a special luncheon scheduled for May 5
in Toronto.
The City of Toronto added plastics tubs and lids
(margarine, yogurt, ice cream, deli etc containers) to its
curbside collection program on April 1st of this
year. This move stems from EPIC’s pioneering work
into the recycling of tub material (begun many years ago),
which involved the investigation of end markets for tubs and
lids.

From warnings about asteroids headed for earth to
political conspiracies involving space aliens – and almost
everything in between – the Internet has become to a variety
of tall tales, myths, half-truths and hoaxes. Some are
outlandish, while others can be quite subtle.
The plastics industry welcomes the opportunity to expand
its working relationship with the Great Canadian Shoreline
Cleanup (GCSC), an anti-litter organization committed to
cleaning up the shorelines of Canadian lakes, rivers and
waterways. It is one of Canada’s largest environmental
direct-action programs and is this country’s largest
contributor to the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC). Over
the last 11 years, it has grown from a local beach cleanup to
a national program with volunteers in every province and
territory. This year’s clean up events will take place between
September 10-18. »More

The good news is that there are corporate tax reductions
and the elimination of the corporate surtax, although both of
these initiatives are three years down the road. The bad news
is that there is no set of measurers designed to spur growth
and development in the domestic manufacturing sector, even in
the face of increased global competition and a high Canadian
dollar. The ominous news is that there is an entire chapter of
the budget that discusses possible measures to build the cost
of pollution and environmental degradation into the tax regime
(see Annex 4 of the Budget Plan). »More
